Weather
· Global patterns influence local weather
Vocabulary
Convection, atmospheric movement, atmosphere, weather, weather maps, air pressure, barometer, air masses, high pressure, low pressure, wind, fronts: warm front, cold front, stationary front, occluded front
Students Must Know...
· Global patterns of atmospheric movements influence local interaction of air pressures, temperatures, and moisture resulting in local weather conditions
· Air pressure is the measure of the weight of the air over a given area as indicated by a barometer
· Air masses move across the land and may be characterized by temperature (warm or cold), pressures (high or low), and moisture content (humid or dry)
· High pressure brings clear and sunny skies. Low pressure brings storms.
· Fronts occur in association with low pressure systems. It is the boundary between two air masses.
· A warm front is the leading edge of a mass of warm, humid air that overtakes colder, denser air. They bring overcast skies and gentle rains and are represented by red half circles on a weather map.
· A cold front is the leading edge of a cold, dry air mass that moves into an area, displacing warm air, bringing thunderstorms. They are represented by blue triangles on a weather map.

And be able to...
· Explain how global patterns influence local weather
· Identify characteristics of warm fronts, cold fronts and high and low pressure systems
· Use weather maps that show high and low pressure systems and fronts to identify local weather conditions

Edhead Assignment
You will open the link provided for Ed Heads above.
There are two stations to complete in this activity.
1. Report the Weather
2. Predict the Weather
Start with Report the Weather first.
You will start with level one and complete each level (1 – 3). Follow the pop ups given to you by the Ed Head character. In order to get the weather symbol on the map, click the symbol on the right. It will appear on the map. Once the symbol is on the map, drag it to the correct location.
In order to get the temperature gauge to move to your desired temperature, click on the Set Temp tab and slide it up and down to the desired temperature.
Work your way through levels one, two, and three.
Predict the Weather:
You will start with level one and complete each level 1 – 3. Follow the pop ups that appear on the screen of the Predict- O-Matic. The pop ups will direct your every move.
Work your way through levels one, two, and three.
